Description
This notebook contains several articles written and edited by Alfred J. Mokler. These pieces include historical events, people, and places of Wyoming. Not all articles are digitized and are available for in-person viewing. Not digitized articles include: a letter to the State Director, "Casper's Postoffice and Postmasters," "Stage Robbery at Cold Springs," "Casper's Old Town Hall and New City Building," "Horse Racing in the Early Days," "Attractive Upper Green River Valley," "Hole-in-the-Wall Romantic Spot of the Wild West," "Home on the Range," "Indians of Wyoming," and "Indian Chiefs Hanged at Fort Laramie," and " Lavoye."
"Casper's Old Town Hall" details several events described by Alred J. Mokler as "comedies and tragedies" that occurred in Casper's Old Town Hall around 1933. This includes accounts of community clubs, political and social events, etc.
"David Charles Cummings, Buffalo, WY" is an account of David Charles Cummings' life and his experiences while emigrating from Virginia to Wyoming in the late 1860s.
"Casper's Assets (1936)" explains the natural resource and business assets of Casper up to 1936 and several economic ventures that led to a prosperous foundation of Casper, WY.
"Early Day Education in Wyoming" briefly describes the establishment and development of Wyoming's education system, the community's sentiments and efforts, as well as the laws enacted in regards to education.
"Fur Traders of the Great Northwest" is account of how fur traders helped the establishment of Wyoming settlements along with their stories, experiences, and accomplishments.
"Indian Chiefs Fight on Crow Heart Butte" depicts the rivalry between the early Shoshone and Crow tribes along with the events that resulted in a fight in 1865/1866 on what is now called Crow Heart Butte and contributed to its name. This also includes a brief history of Chief Washakie of the Shoshone tribe.
"Sioux Indians and Sheriffs Battle in 1903" depicts the events of a fight between Sioux tribe members of Eastern Wyoming and Sheriff William Miller in the fall of 1903.
