WHEREAS, the people of Wyoming
cultural heritage;
WHEREAS,
human expression;
the performing
arts
WHEREAS, our identity as a
State is expressed through the arts;
enjoy
a
rich
are critical

WHEREAS, Wyoming is witnessing an
number of creative and artistic activities;
and
as
to
a
increased
WHEREAS, support of the arts has been an ever
growing
partnership
of
federal,
state
and
local
government entities, businesses and individuals;
WHEREAS, jazz is recognized as America's only
indigenous form of music and Casper College has played
a vital roll in promoting this music in Wyoming for
the past 22 years;
WHEREAS,
designating a WYOMING
FESTIVAL WEEK brings together the public
sectors to restate support of the arts;
STATE JAZZ
and private
NOW THEREFORE, I, MIKE SULLIVAN, Governor of
the State of Wyoming, do hereby proclaim February 5
through February 11, 1989, as
WYOMING'S STATE JAZZ FESTIVAL WEEK
and urge that the people of Wyoming celebrate state
jazz festival week and take part in the two days of
activities planned and honor all artists who are
living and working in this state.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my
hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Wyoming

performer
From the beginning of his career, Dizzy Gillespie’s outstanding
virtuosity as a trumpet player and startling innovation as a jazz
musician immediately established his position as a driving force in
the jazz world.
Together with saxophonist Charlie Parker, he co-founded be-bop
music. Dizzy’s post-war collaboration with Cuban percussionist, Chano
Pozo, propelled Afro-Cuban music into the mainstream of American
culture. His contributions have profoundly influenced all subsequent
styles of jazz and all jazz musicians.
Dizzy has served as an ambassador of American culture, touring
the world for the U. S. State Department many times and has just
recently returned from a highly successful tour of Africa.
His career as a recording artist and band leader, spanning over fifty
years, coupled with his brilliant intellect and acute sense of humor
have made him America’s best known and loved jazz performer; a true
living legend.
�Dizzy Gillespie Quintet
The Casper College Jazz Festival will be one of the first domestic
concerts by the Dizzy Gillespie Quintet following their highly
successful U. S. State Department Tour of Africa, where Dizzy was
made a Tribal chief.
The band consists of four internationally acclaimed New York jazz
musicians.
Ignacio Berroa, drums, hails from Havanna, Cuba. He has played
and recorded with Paquito D’Rivera and also featured on Paquito’s
album, “Blowin.”
Well known jazz guitarist, Ed Cherry, has made many recordings
and appearances on television, at festivals and concerts with Dizzy
Gillespie, including the very fine Dizzy Gillespie Jazz in America video,
available from the Song Corporation.
John Lee, bass, is a much sought after freelance musician from New
York, who was most recently with McCoy Tyler’s band.
Sam Rivers, flute, tenor and soprano saxophones, is an innovative
and highly influential figure in contemporary jazz. He came to
prominence in the legendary Miles Davis Quintet of the ’60s. He has
recorded critically acclaimed solo albums featuring such musicians
as Donald Bryd, Julian Priester, and Dave Holland. His many
apearances with Dizzy include the 1987 Nice, France Jazz Festival and
Dizzy Gillespie’s 70th birthday celebration at Wolftrap as seen on PBS.
The Tom Kinser Wyoming State
High School Jazz Festival
The Tom Kinser Wyoming State High School Jazz Festival at Casper
College is the first jazz festival in the Rocky Mountain region, founded
22 years ago by Dr. Thomas Kinser.
Throughout its history, the festival has brought many of the finest
jazz and show choir musicians and educators available for
performances and adjudication including Dizzy Gillespie, Rufus Reid,
Art Pepper, Jack Petersen, Ashley Alexander, Frank Mantooth, Bobby
Shew, Rich Matteson, Dave Freidman, Hugh Ragin, Paul Romaine, Gary
Foster, Gene Aitken, Bill Mollenoff, Dan Goble, Bob Montgomery,
Rhonda Fossum, Rick Weymuth, and many others.
This year’s festival has featured performances and participation by
over 1500 young men and women from Wyoming’s best high school
and junior high jazz bands and choirs which continues to make this
event Wyoming’s biggest and best jazz festival.

<span>This photo album documents Jean Gallatin Ogilbee's service in the U.S. Air Force and participation in Bob Hope’s 1957 Christmas tour of the Pacific for Pacific Command. There are 37 pages and/or photographic prints contained in this digital record. The repository has not yet added copies of textual materials or documents that may be of interest to researchers other than Ogilbee's PACOM booklet. <br /><br />The album includes an exhibit featuring her mother, Elizabeth "Neal" Forsling's painted works in Hawaii and other related newspaper clippings, mementos, and printed documents. Jean Gallatin Ogilbee (1920-1982) of Casper, Wyoming, was a member of the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Hickman Air Force Base. In 1957 she participated as a Captain in “Bob Hope’s Christmas GI Show,” which often toured to entertain servicemen abroad. For this tour, the locales chosen were Pacific countries such as Hawaii, Guam, Japan, Korea, China, and India. Her mother, Elizabeth "Neal" Forlsing, joined her on this tour.</span>

<span>This photo album documents Jean Gallatin Ogilbee's service in the U.S. Air Force and participation in Bob Hope’s 1957 Christmas tour of the Pacific for Pacific Command. There are 37 pages and/or photographic prints contained in this digital record. The repository has not yet added copies of textual materials or documents that may be of interest to researchers other than Ogilbee's PACOM booklet. <br /><br />The album includes an exhibit featuring her mother, Elizabeth "Neal" Forsling's painted works in Hawaii and other related newspaper clippings, mementos, and printed documents. Jean Gallatin Ogilbee (1920-1982) of Casper, Wyoming, was a member of the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Hickman Air Force Base. In 1957 she participated as a Captain in “Bob Hope’s Christmas GI Show,” which often toured to entertain servicemen abroad. For this tour, the locales chosen were Pacific countries such as Hawaii, Guam, Japan, Korea, China, and India. Her mother, Elizabeth "Neal" Forlsing, joined her on this tour.</span>
