The Frances Seely Webb Collection contains over 1,400 photographs, correspondence, handwritten research notes, the proof copy of Webb's book, Casper's First Homes, and a series of scrapbooks. Materials documents Casper buildings, cultural institutions, homes, and society from 1890-1978. Also included are photographs of individuals and groups visually documenting Casper society. In addition are items originally collected by Boney Earnest, a frontiersman and former member of the Natrona County Historical Society. Subjects documented in Webb’s correspondence, notebooks, and scrapbooks include things related to her ongoing research, obituaries, Casper and Natrona County homes, businesses, and cultural institutions.

captain, Mrs. George H. Classen,
read the ceremony and Mrs. Betty
Polly, presiding captain, welcomed
the new members into the club.

plied by Brown’s dairy, had to be
ridden by the new candidates as a
part of the initiation rites. Miss Lots
Keck took first honors for remaining
astride the bovine for the longest

Researchers will find articles on and material created by the Casper Boot and Spur Club including the Club's 5th Annual Horse Show photograph taken in May of 1936. Also inluded is issue Number (No.) Forty of the Burlington Bulletin, a publication of the Burlington Route Historical Society, which contains a feature article on the Cole Creek Disaster; a December 1946 telephone directory for Casper, Glenrock, and Midwest; and a portrait of Leslie A. The famous Ted Sha-wn, formerly
of the St. Dennis-Shawn company,
and his ensemble of eight men dan
cers, will appear at the Caaocr High
school auditorium the evening of
Wednesday, Dec. 4, under the spon
sorship of the local Business 'nd
Professional Women’s club.
Announcement of the event, an
innovation in educational entertain
ment, was made today by Gertrude
Kamps, club president, who stated
that the contract had been secured
as a civic project in bringing this
unusual and classical program to
the community. “This opportunity
was presented to our organization
and we accepted it immediately up
on learning the type of thing the
production really is,” Miss Kamps
said. “I feel it would have been
accepted by any one of a number of
other fine civic organizations, but
the opportunity happened to be pre
sented to our club first, and we
take more than casual pride in as
suming the responsibility for its
presentation. We feel that it wUl
receive the wholehearted interest
and supiport not only of Casper,
but our surrounding neighboring
towns, as well,” she declared.

Mr. Shawn, referred to as “Fron
tiersman of an Art-Form for Ath
letes,” has built up a personnel of
men athletes from various universi
ties and other Institutions of learning from the eastern and middle
western states, each carefully chos
en. The summer season is devoted
to training more drastic and rigor
ous than the customary training for
the average athletic activities. Their
training camp is in the Berkshire
Hills of Massachusetts.
The company includes also a ta
lented pianist and composer, Jess
Meeker.
This week’s issue of Time maga
zine carries an interesting article
concerning the appearance of Ted
Shawn and his men dancers at the
King’s Silver Jubilee, in celebration
of the 25th anniversary of the reign
of King Edward, this year in Eng
land. The trcuoe is to anrear at
an early date at His Majesty’s Thea
ter in London.
This is the first trip of the Shawn
men dancers to the west, and the
only other Wyoming engagement is
at the University of Wyoming, Lar.

Tom Gill’s “Starlight Pass” Features Tale of
Ranger in Wind River Country
A threat uttered years ago in the
Wyoming Rockies led Tom Gill to
write “Starlight Pass,” his first
■ forest service novel, which Fatrar
and Rinehart issued on May 16. Mr.
Gill was a forest ranger then, and
his job was to see’that all trees were
cut according to government regula
tions. One day, while riding through
a remote part of the forest, Gill
found a whole hillside of spruce that
had been illegally felled and cut up
into logs. He went down to see the
woods boss responsible—a hulking,
black-whiskered bruiser proud of his
reputation as a man-killer. The
man listened, aimed his quid of to
bacco through the open door, then
poked a stubby finger close to Gill’s
face.

Then and there Gill knew he had
the villain for a novel he would
some day write aboft the forest
service. In those days the forest
ranger frequently found himself In
a country actively hostile to gov
ernment foresters, miles from a rail
road, a law unto himself, but re

background that Mr. Gill has writ
ten "Starlight Pass.”

Sixty Participate in
Event Sunday
A mystery ride, sponsored bv the
CabaUeros and Boot and Spur clubs,
was held Sunday and met with such
success and enthusiasm it has been
planned to make it a semi-annual
affair.
More than 60 horseback riders took
part in the event which started at
the Edenfield stables south of town
late Sunday morning, Only a few
of the leader^s of the groun knew
the riders’ destination. Starting
from Edenfield the riders weni
around the east end of Casper and
across mystery bridge, Participants,
in the dark as to their destination,
searched every gulch and ditch In
hopes to discover the feed in store
for them before leaders of the party
could reveal the destination.
The group finally ended up at the
home of Mr, and Mrs. Charles
Dougherty on the Salt Creek high
way, north of town, near the airport.
There refreshments were served.
Because of the success of the ride
plans are now under way to hold
such a ride twice a year, in the fall
and again in the spring.

Boot and Spur Enjoy
Yearly Event at
Country Club
In a typically Christmas
atmosphere members of the
Boot and Spur club enjoyed
their annual holiday party
Saturday eyening at the
Country club dressed in
amusing and clever costumes.
Toastmlstre’s for the evening was
Mrs. R. o. Bryan who presided over
a beautifully appointed table.
Following ■ the dinner games oc
cupied the guests until the arrival
of Santa and Mrs. Santa with gilts
for all.
Costume prizes went to Miss
Thelma Rowray. dressed as sncw
man. Miss Margaret Brennan, dress
ed as a dandy of 1890 and Miss
Marguerita Barrett dressed as
Raggerty Ann. Door prize was won
by Mrs. Mildred Boyer.
. Captain, Mrs. Betty Polly awatjed spurs to three members who had
ridden for and won them. They
were Mrs. R. C. Perdue, Mrs. George
K. Forster and Mrs. Lillian Gllardl.
Mrs. Jean Lathrop was presented
with a beautiful bridle in appre
ciation of her efiort.s in conducting
the Monday night classes.
As part of the evening’s enter
tainment, Mrs. W. D. Johnston
ahowed moving films of the recent
Horse Show.
