How do youfeel today?
I don’t know how to write what I don’t know
How to describe what I know is in my head but is felt everywhere else.
When I can see the finish line but the ground has turned to viscous mud,
Sucking each step I take deeper and deeper still.
Lol, you’ve never run a day in your life
I want to scream but meekness has nailed my tongue to the bottom of my skull.
Human speech on average sits at about 6o Decibels,
And I've never spoken above 59.
Who would listen to you anyway
I want to reach but there are weights on my wrists digging in if I lift them up.
And pulling down further and further as I let them drop.
My back aches and my hips will wrench from their sockets if my feet get any heavier
The exercise will do you good
The table is set but the feast tastes like stale saltines.
I’ll keep gorging myself.
Oink oink
I listen desperately but even the ringing in my ears feels muffled.
It’s all inyour head. Ton'llfeel better ifyoujust do the work
There is a blanket of silence that croons its insidious song of rest.

And I am so tired.

There are antelope in the graveyard,
grazing amongst the headstones.
Offering a gentle thunder to these
Slumbering forms.
Wild turkeys have sequestered the suburban sprawl.
In this place, how can they tell the difference
Between forest and city.
Cattle guard the highways,
And chickadees man the checkout counter.
Racoons patrol the drainage ditches and waterways,
While geese stroll through the parks.
Dandelions wage war with cracked concrete
And sage brush collects on barbed fences.
We have always shared the place between
Home and wild.
Here the boundaries are not set in stone,
But the borders are edged with tulips.
I look out over a city in the forest.
There are antelope in the graveyard.
Grazing over our bones.
