This letter belongs to a collection of letters David R. Sutherland sent to his family while in the United States Navy and at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania between 1945 and 1946, and photographs of David, his family, and friends. David R. Sutherland, according to the obituary published in the Casper Star-Tribune in 2013, was born in Greybull, Wyoming, in 1927 to L.D. &quot;Si&quot; and Clara Lewis Sutherland. He served in the Navy during WWII, was in the first graduating class of Casper College, and went on to attend Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania before graduating from Denver University. Upon returning to Wyoming, he married Joan Hurd in 1954 and opened an accounting firm in Casper.
