The following transcription of Demorest's annotations was selected and transcribed by Casper College student and Archives staff member Grace MacPherson in January of 2024.
SONNET 125
Essex on one side + Leic. on other at Tilbury
1600–E. considers trial[?] of Essex. Cecil advises Es. on letter in which he prays that the cup might pass from him.
1576–1st playhouse (Burbage)
Christ images here may preshadow Essex + Christopher Blount
Bradley interprets this [sonnet] as repudiating early position of loving for reasons of eternal beauty.
Could this be linked to S’s part in rebellion: Rich. II performance recognized by E.?

Bore the canopy: Essex carried canopy at celeb. of defeat of Armada and also at funeral of Eliz–impossible! [Essex died two years before Elizabeth’s death in 1603.] Essex commanded part of fleet against Armada.

Nature in Sp. + in wh[?] prec. Ph. + Turtle unit
