All lots were sold for taxes & later bought by Rudolph Kamon,
leased by Kamon to Snodgrass (25 yrs) Apr.1 1956 (surface only)
Oil & Gas Lease from Rudolph & Isabel Kamon to R 3 Balckmore
(5 years)
12 November, 1969. I assigned to Royal Resources,
Denver. This NEi sec. 4 -32N-81 W was a patented Oil Placer Claim.

BESSEMER - WYOMING TERRITORY - CARBON COUNTY
Bessemer was undoubtedly named because of the red color
of surrounding, or nearby hills, supposedly containing
and colored by iron.
Sir Henry Bessemer invented the
process of makihS steel from cast iron, (bessemer process).

The Wyoming Improvement Company, of Fillmore County, Nebraska
(see town of Shikley, as a Shickley was president of company)
named it.
See "There’s History in Barbed Wire" page 28, in Histotorlcal
Section of Casper Star-Tribune, 49th Annual edition,
March 19, 1967.
The land, the NEi of Section 4, Township 32 North, Range
81 West of 6th Brlnclpal Meridian, was located as an Oil
Placer Claim, the only method then in use for acquiring
potential oil producing rights, and later patented by the
3 claimants (names on record but not copied by me).
Lots were sold and a very small village was built, in which
my father, Walter A. "Doc" Blackmore, ("Doc" fpr D. because
he was a pharmacist) built a drugstore building from native
logs and lumber, (with a leanto shed for residence) and
operated it - sometimes trading medicines to Indians for
clubs, moccasins, etc. which are now in the State Museum,
in Douglas - until a re-survey of the proposed railroad
was changed to build it some 12 miles to the northeast.

The town was then abandoned and Blackmore went to work as a
ranch hand (he knew nothing of livestock or ranching) and
later tore doun the building and used the material to build
a house on Lot 18, Block 5 in the town of Casper.
He lived
becoming
rancher,
business

in Casper until his death ®n April 20, 1923,
mayor, an important businessman, real estate owner
builder of several houses, 2 apartment houses,
buildings, etc

After Blackmore went broke - along with other Bessemer
residents - he also contracted to do the annual assessment
work for others on the many oil placer claims around the
country.
An expenditure of $100.00 per claim per year was
required to validate such claims, and recording in county
records notices of such work.
In my files is a photograph of a well being drilled for oil
in NEi NEt NWi 4-32-31 by Charles Peterson in 1388. The only
person identifiable is W A Blackmore, driving his buckboard
and team of buggy-mulesi shown in foreground. He apparently
was proud of the mules as he mentioned them to me several

Balings from the well are still visible today.!
