Description

Photograph of individuals participating in a protest during the Crimson Dawn Park Midsummer's Eve Festival on Casper Mountain. The event was first conceived by local Casper Mountain resident Neal Forsling in the 1920s for her family and friends to celebrate the end of winter at her home with stories and treats. The event continued and expanded, drawing many locals to Forsling's property on Casper Mountain each year. Forsling would tell stories during the event, a task that was later taken on by her daughter Mary Martin and then Rebecca Weaver Hunt. The event sparked controversy among local Christian groups for its supposed encouragement of witchcraft and pagan-inspired theme, events, and stories.

The event photographs in this collection are part of a larger collection of that consists of photographs and negatives created and used by the Casper Star Tribune from 1967 until the middle of 1995, according to a newspaper article on the donation to the Western History Center from February of 2000. Images in this collection may support the use of other collections in the repository or vice versa and are organized by events, people, or places categories.
