A DOE’S SESSION

The scene is any parlor.
The time is any night.
The group — the same old gang of gals.
The talk—is men—you’re right’.
The subject is a timely one
Because it's "forty-four”
Leap Year is a novelty
But worries are in store.
Says one, "I hate to even think—
Because I have a hunch.
The ’foreign gals’ are on their toes,
They’ll beat us to the punchl"
Another says, "You’re right, my friend.
We must do something quick.
But what, I fear I do not know
For they vdll get their pick",

A stupe pipes up with something vague
Like "Oh, the hell with menl"
They talk awhile of other things.
But then they’re back again,
"We’ll never get a man," they say
"If we don't do it now,"
And you will notice at a glance
A wriiikle in their brow.

-6-

They solve the matter finally
For just another night.
Tomorrow finds them back again.

Dick Tobin was an athletic star but was home during the war recuperating from a prior injury. To quote a February 10, 1944 article in the University of Wyoming’s Branding Iron, “Very appropriately the paper is titled the Altruist and the four-to-six page mimeographed sheet now has a circulation of 166 copies which go to every continent in the world.” Tobin studied engineering at the University of Wyoming and graduated from Midwest High School. He received an MVP trophy while playing on the high school football team in 1933. The first known issue of the sheet was dated March 6, 1943. This collection consists of copies dated June 28, 1943 through April 3, 1945. It includes seven issues and does not represent a complete run.</text>
