The Stone Ranch house held much History for Casper. The Searight Brothers built the house in 1883 and lived there until 1886. Then they sold the ranch to Wyo, future governor. History tells of the Goose Egg Ranch including the Long Horn cattle, and the Tale of How the Ranch received it's Name. Cowboys discovered a nest of Canada Goose eggs. The men brought the eggs back to a camp to fry up for their breakfast. After breakfast a the cowboys decided they should call the land the Goose Egg Ranch . The Searight Brothers built the house in 1883 and lived there until 1886. The lumber, hardware, and materials used in the construction of the building was hauled by freight teams from Cheyenne, a distance of more than 225 miles. The brothers then sold the ranch to J.M. Carey, a future Governor of Wyoming. The beautiful stone home slowly deteriorated, and despite efforts by local historians to save the Goose Egg ranch house, the building was demolished in July, 1951.
