The first team of Mike Hauffe, Bub Miller, Marty Bratt, Scott Schilling, and Joe Taylor shot their way to national honors by winning the ACUI National Championship of two year schools in American trap at Peoria, Illinois. This team also placed ninth in the overall standings of all colleges and universities. To sweeten the taste of victory, Bub Miller, Mike Lewis, and Mike Hauffe placed in the top four of their respective classes at the national shoot. As a prelude to the national win, five teams took part in the Regional Cornhuskers shoot at Donaphin, Nebraska. At Donaphin the girls team composed of Renee jordan, Gail Nielson, Tery Morehouse, Nancy Scutt and Trina Taylor placed first in the Women's Division, beating their closet rival, Iowa State rather handily. One of the men's teams won first in the two year schools, and a second men's team won third overall against all colleges and universities. Bub Miller and Marty Bratt distinguished themselves on an individual basis by winning their handicap yardages in a shoot off. The Trap Club has been in existence for the last ten years and this was the first national win. Coach Jim Howard started the club in 1970. In 1977 Dale A. Storey joined Jim as a coach and trap shooting was offered as a P.E. credit. Through the efforts of the school and the coaches this program has grown to be among the largest collegiate trap shooting programs in the nation. Practicing is done once a week throughout spring semester one afternoon a week at the Rocky Mountain Gun Club. The Club has generously offered the facilities to the college to enhance this youth shooting activity. This year the Trap Club received a new Remington Model 1100 12 gauge shotgun in memory of Eugene (Swede) Brummond. Swede's son, Jim Brummond, was a member of the trap team in the past and won national honors in 1979. This generous gift from the Brummond family will enable more students to have the opportunity to participate in trap shooting. 84 �As with most sports, the trophies won only tell part of the story. If the most improved shooter award was given, it would have to be awarded to Allison Fletcher. She had never shot a gun before this year when she registered for trap shooting. For the first half of the semester, Allison was lucky to break five or six birds out of twenty-five. With practice and determination, her scores gradually improved. At the Cornhuskers shoot, Allison, Gail Nielson, and Nancy Scutt will form the nucleus of the girls next year. With this talent returning, Casper College could have one of the best girls trap teams in the nation. The traveling teams, in total, shot well and represented Casper College in the manner and spirit of a top Junior College. In 1980 season will remain a high point in the memory of both the students and coaches. Spring, 1980 was a very good year for the clay bird shooters of Casper College. — Dale Storey 85 �Ski Club This year, ski club had a three day trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and to another to Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Also the club had a spring party with a band and refreshments. They made their money through a car wash and a raffle. Their trips and club sponsors were provided by student senate. It played the role of educator, informant and communicator. The Chinook gave the students the knowledge they needed. During the heat of the Iranian crisis, the Chinook localized the event by exploring the effect of the Iranian situation on campus. It also covered the Social Science Seminar, the student elections and the student help cut-back. The Chinook gave the students the information they wanted. Throughout the year the paper informed students of current sports events. It also covered the Miss Casper College Pageant, the Firefall concert and the three Penthouse productions as well as the numerous dances and discos. The Chinook gave the students ideas others wanted them to be aware of. The remarkable Dogood letters and other letters-to-the-editor constantly enlightned those who agreed and those who disagreed. Editorials covered numerous topics such as interpreting the purpose of Student Senate, voting elections, raising the drinking age to 21 and improving the lighting around the college. And, so students could be aware of what was available for them off campus, 25 percent of the paper consisted of advertising by Casper Residents and merchants. 88 I 8 �Debi Holbert, editor Pam McDaniel, news editor 89 �90 �Old 91 The game is finally ended The last hurrah's faded into the distance and the stadium is empty of fans. No, not completely empty for there up in the stands near the top sits Old 91. He just sits and stares at the grassy field, the field he never plays on. He has some ability, he's big and really tough but when game time comes 91 sits it out. For faster men have passed him up and beaten him to the end zone. Better men have stolen his passes and ground him into the dust. The girls want the heros not also rans so 91 sits alone. The papers tell of superstars not bench warmers. He works the hardest of all the team lifting weights and running for miles. But when the fans scream and the teams clash 91 sits on the side, all by himself. The school is dark the stars agleam the stadium cold and lonely. The Expression is a magazine put out by students containing photography, poetry, and stories done by Casper College Students. Sponsors were Evelyn Brummond, Melon Raines, and Richard Reitz. �Cheerleaders 93 �Centerboard Lynn Penoff Robert Cummings Jane Seed 94 �r <1 Mike Donavan, president Led by Mike Donavan, Centerboard kept a full calendar of activities for the students, a concert starring Firefall, numerous dances, and several parties. Also various other concerts and activities. They kept the year exciting and enjoyable. Barbara Lattell 95 �Phi Theta Kappa Phi Theta Kappa is the national junior college honorary fraternity. The Casper College chapter is Zeta Alpha. During the past year four major activities were undertaken. They included the fall and spring initiations which include many letters of invitation, congratulatory letters to parents, and large receptions following the formal initiation ceremonies. In addition we sent a delegation to the national convention in Washington D.C., made up by our officers; Dave Burgett, President, Shelly Price, Secretary-Treasurer, and one member Christina Cancino and the sponsor Dr. Leroy Strausner. Zeta Alpha received two forms of national recognition - a posthumus award for excellence in writing given to a former chapter member, Delia Reitz and the former president of Casper College, Dr. T.H. Aley was named to the P.T.K. College Presidents' Hall of Fame. In May, our chapter hosted our annual Faculty - PTK breakfast in Washington Park. Breakfast is cooked and served to over 200 individuals by our chapter as a sort of "appreciation day" for their work. During March we also hosted the Sheridan College Chapter on our campus during the two-day social science seminar. This meeting was highlighted by a banquet on Thursday, March 27th. 96 �Coquettes Coquettes are the official ambassadors for Casper College. They are carefully selected by their peers and a panel of Casper College Advisors, These women are selected on the basis of their service-oriented attitudes, poise, scholarship, and leadership abilities. Some of the activities that the Coquettes had the privilege of participating in, are the W-7 Conference, the Social Science Seminar, the Robert Commons Open House, the Faculty Tea, the Miss Casper College Pageant, and the Blood Drive. The Coquettes also serve as a liason between the community of Casper and Casper College. The Ranch-City Party, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, gave the Coquettes one opportunity to represent Casper College and to serve the community. This year Coquettes were Mary Smith, President; Theresa Lujan, Vice President; Helen Brown, Secretary-Treasurer; Cyndi Jill Guy, Communications Chairperson; Cindy Brown, Lisa Carpenter, Susanne Milne, Vai Neuerburg, Susan Pennington, Honorary Member; Cheryl Porta, and Barbara Wilson. Rodeo Team 111 �Cooperative Work Experience where Job And College Meet Retail Merchandising and Management majors have the opportunity to combine work on the job and school to more fully round out their on-the-job experience. This provides a two fold learning experience that is valuable in the educational process. It brings the business to the classroom and the classroom into the business. Class work takes on more relevancy and gives the student the opportunity to put into use up-to-date practices that he/she has been studying. When classroom topics such as business problems or methods of operations are discussed, it becomes more meaningful to the student. They not only know what the problem is, but can relate the situation to something they have personally experienced. Students who graduate with this type of education have a better understanding of the business world. There is truth to the old adage, 'Experience is the best teacher." The building was named for Fred Goodstein, a prominent Casper businessman, in recognition of the substantial contributions that the Foundation has provided to Casper College. The library adds about 5000 books per year to its collection, bringing the current total to just over 58,000 volumes. In addition, the library subscribes to over 500 periodicals and now has a collection of more than 300 maps. This year, as the result of a memorial gift, the library acquired a National Geographic physical globe and a political globe. The library's collection of local and Wyoming history materials is steadily growing, this year the materials in our rare book and Wyoming & the West collection numbered over 4000 volumes. A variety of noteworthy works of art are also housed in the Goodstein Foundation Library; including watercolors by Earl Reed and Hans Kleiber, oil paintings by Ed Gothberg and Frank Hoffman, prints by Peter Hurd and E.W. Gollings, and a bronze bust by Robert Russin. Of historical interest is the oak desk and chair used in the Wyoming Legislature from territorial days and last owned by Verda James, first woman Speaker of the Wyoming House of Representatives.
