She’s hesitant, but she answers. It’s the hospital. They have a patient, just transferred out of intensive care. Morris Baxter. “He listed you as his emergency contact.” She says, “Excuse me?” The voice on the phone tells her, “Baxter,” and she hangs up. She assumes it is a prank. But then she starts to wonder. Do I know a Morris? Have I ever met a Morris? She takes a cab to the hospital. They show her to his room. She doesn’t know the man. The next day, Morris opens his eyes.
