In the parking lot, he heard a drunk doing his best to sound like Mel Torme. Ed drank four shots of bourbon in the span of an hour. He knew that was part of the problem, but even sober he did not think he could watch anybody else pretend to be someone. It felt too much like his career. On weekdays, the office provided the soundtrack. Every member of the staff strained to play the part of a staff member. Edward starred in better productions on the weekend. Lately, however, the scripts had been tragedies. With Mel Torme still in his ears, Edward started to move faster. The children in the neighborhood wondered why he ran down the street.
