The following transcription of Demorest's annotations was selected and transcribed by Casper College student and Archives staff member Grace MacPherson in January of 2024.
SONNET 105
E. assumed pose of “earthly idol” near end of her reign
About 1603 Bacon writes Valerius Terminus in which he makes first mention of the 4 classes of idols afterwards descr. in Novium Organdum ’20
Could this be against Essex retort to K[illegible] to rep. of quartering during night of [illegible]?
1604–authorized King James Version Bible
Chains last used against Wyat again strung to resist invasion of Armada–London
Line 1: Interesting bc cf. this with Jonson’s tribute to him [Shakespeare] after his death
Line 14: Trinity[;] maybe: Eng Scotl Irel
SONNET 106
Constance–1st child of Donne (1603?)
’06 Bacon marries Alice Birnham
05–what is Bacon–Veralum?
Just before Armada: Merlin? (old marble at Glastonbury)--words warn of destr. when Pendragon’s seed (like Pegronientarus[?] word[?] but earlier)
Time not king now + has “wasted” her
(Strong evidence that two are the same)
Fair + dark becomes “dark, cruel, + unfaithful” in 2nd unit
