SONNET 89
Overall Notes
89—Henry III (Fr.) assassinated by monk (Hug.); Henry of Navarre [successor] needs aid
’89 James marries Anne
Mar[ch] prelate hunt, Cartwright jailed. Udell[?] (suspected author) dies in jail—Exec. of Hacket (relig. maniac) + of[?] Separatists—Barron + Greenwood + Perry (marpe[?] consp.)
’89—Essex runs away + joins Drake. E orders back: disobeyed. Tried for Lisborn, Farlod.
’89—Willoughby succ. Leis
’89—Henry III assassinated; Huguenot
Henry IV now on throne; needs E’s support; she sends Willoughby to Normandy.
Drake’s plan used. Fails, He[sic] + navy discredited.
’89 Cecil marries Eliz. Brooke
89—Bacon writes tract urging relig. toler. for Puritans
Essex was sent from court
1590 Marlowe’s plays printed
Negative words = Navarre accession
